Frequently Asked Questions

Are you accepting new clients?

Dr. McDole is moving, so she is currently
not accepting new clients through December.

When her calendar is not too full,
Dr. McDole schedules house calls with new clients
by referral only.

She sees patients by appointment only.

She is able to offer preventive and wellness services,
consultation and many diagnostics,
in-home treatments,
and referral to a veterinary hospital or
to work with specialists when appropriate.

If you are not a client
and you are looking for a veterinarian to perform a house call euthanasia,
or if you are out of Dr. McDole's service area
or she is not able to schedule your pet at this time,
you can click on the link below to see a list of other WSVMA members
who are house call veterinarians.
(Dr. McDole has chosen not to be listed here
because she is only accepting a few new clients at this time.)

How do I make an appointment?

If you would like to schedule an appointment,
please call or e-mail Dr. McDole.
Contact Us
You can discuss with the doctor whether your pet's needs can best be met
with a house call visit or in a hospital setting.

If you are a potential new client,
you can discuss whether you are within her service area
and if she will be able to accept a new patient at this time.

Please note that not all hospitals are equipped for
some of the species and health issues that Dr. McDole sees.

If we determine that you should make an appointment
to have your pet seen at a hospital rather than through a house call,
that appointment would be scheduled by contacting the individual hospital.
Any charges would be set by that hospital, and payment would be made to them.
You will find a calendar listing the relief hospital schedule here:

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Do you do emergency house calls?

We do not see emergencies or schedule after-hours house calls.

These things are best taken care of in a hospital situation,
where there are multiple people on staff
who are ready and waiting to care for your pet right away.

If your animal has an emergency that needs immediate attention,
please see the Emergencies page for a list of emergency hospitals.

If you are a current client, and your pet does not have an immediate life-threatening emergency,
please call, and we can discuss what the best course of action would be.
Please remember that Dr. McDole's schedule may not permit her to return your call right away!

Current clients who take their pets to an emergency hospital should be sure to
give that hospital the contact information for McDole Veterinary Services.

What are your hours?

House calls are by appointment only, and are
scheduled within the following times:

10 am - 6 pm
Monday through Saturday

What does a house call cost?

A regularly scheduled house call is $43 per visit, plus an exam fee.
An annual physical examination or an exam for a health problem is $52 per pet.
The exam fee for a healthy pet receiving vaccines is $40.
Of course any treatments, vaccinations, or medications would have an additional charge.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes, we do give senior and disability discounts of 10% (off services only).
Please let us know if you qualify for this discount!

We also have a Multiple Pet Discount when we see 3 or more pets during one house call visit.
It is 10% off the house call and exam fees.

We are able to offer these discounts when the total is paid by cash or check at the time of service.

Do you do any billing? Do you take credit cards?

Payment is due in full at the time services are rendered.

We are not set up to do any billing or to hold checks.

We accept payment by cash or check.
We also take payment by credit card,
however there are some limitations to the amounts we can process.
We accept all major credit cards:
Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.

Do you do house call euthanasias?

Making end of life decisions can be one of the hardest things a pet-parent has to face.
When it is the right decision to make,
it can also be one of the most loving gifts that we can give to our pets.
Euthanasia allows our pets to be
surrounded and supported by their loved ones at the end,
and to go without the suffering that they might otherwise be facing.
Performing the procedure in the animal's familiar
home surroundings can help make the process more peaceful.

We limit euthanasias to our regularly established patients.
Dr. McDole knows their medical history, their individual personalities, and their owners' needs.
She is better prepared to help with this very important process
when we have a doctor/client/patient relationship
before the time comes for end of life decisions to be made.
Please do not refer patients for euthanasia.

Why would I want a house call?

Well, honestly, the majority of our clients have chosen to have
Dr. McDole be their family pets' doctor.
Their decision was not based on the fact that she is doing house calls.
However, there are some times when a house call can be very helpful,
when compared with a visit to a veterinary hospital.

For example, if you have a lot of pets that need to be seen,
it can be much more convenient to have the vet come to you,
rather than having to lug all of the pets to the vet!
And with one house call fee per visit (not per pet) and the Multiple Pet Discount,
this can be a very affordable option.

Some people prefer to be in the comfort of their own home,
rather than waiting in an exam room to see the vet.
A house call often provides a more relaxed setting to discuss
your pets' medical issues.
Also, you will be working directly with Dr. McDole during the visit,
which allows a more personalized level of care
than many hospitals are able to provide.

Some pets prefer to be in the comfort of their own home,
rather than waiting in an exam room to see the vet!
Sometimes it's just downright scary to go to a strange, loud place
that smells funny and has lots of other people and animals around.

Do you do surgery?

Sterile surgeries need to be performed in a sterile environment.
Dr. McDole does many types of surgeries, but usually these are done in hospitals
(we do not have a mobile hospital van with operating suite).
There are some minor, non-sterile surgeries that can be performed in a house call setting.
Where a surgery should be performed is something that should be discussed with the doctor
before scheduling the surgery.
